Garage Door Opens Before Fully Closing

Sometimes, a garage door opens before fully closing (before it touches the floor). There are several reasons why that happens. At times, the reason is easy to find, and when it is not, a garage door technician is needed to find the reason (and repair the cause of the problem).

Step to follow:

Visually check for the cause yourself first.
Check the garage door owner’s manual.
Call a technician.

Reasons why a garage door opens before fully closing:

The garage door system thinks that the door already touched the floor and that it is already closed (because of the friction), so it opens up.
The garage door system thinks that the door hit a person or an object on its way down (due to friction or blocking object), so it opens up.
The rollers may be damaged, rusted, or not well lubricated, which causes extra friction, so the door opens up.
The screw that controls the force that allows safely operation needs less sensitivity adjustment.
